Gordon is a member of the Grande Prairie Photography Club and has been taking photos since he was a child. He used a Kodak little black box-type camera that was his mother’s. He continued to take pictures of his sea exercises when he was in the Royal Canadian Navy. When he was out of the Navy, he got into portraits and weddings and family pictures. His passion for photography began to get too expensive so then he decided to keep it in the family by providing portraits for just family members. After many years of continuing to take photos, Gordon describes himself now as a happen-stance photographer.
By Happen-stance, he means it was chance, he just happened upon it. He didn’t go hunting or waiting for it- he saw it, he took it. Gordon says that he has missed many photos with this type of photography but some of his favourite photos are from this technique. One of them being a white flower with a bug flying up to it. He says his camera was always on manual even though it takes time to get his settings right. Since he took the weekend workshop with Darwin Wiggett and Samantha Chrysanthou that he shoots more with his aperture and shutter speed priority settings and rarely misses shots.
Gordon currently works out at the Grande Prairie Airport and continues to be a happen-stance photographer with his mostly used 18-200mm lens.
